Frequently Asked Questions
Can I attend Town Board Meetings?
All meetings of the Town Board, including Workshop Meetings, are
open to the public. You will find the dates on the Calendar.
When does the Town Board meet?
The regular Town workshop meeting is normally held on the first
Friday of each month, and the regular Town Board meeting is normally
held on the second Monday of each month. Check on the Calendar
for any changes to these dates, or on the bulletin board in the
Town Hall.
Where do I get a copy of the agenda for Town Board Meetings?
Agendas for all meetings are available from the Town Clerk's office
on the day of the scheduled meeting or on the Agendas
& Minutes page.
How can I get a copy of my Marriage License, a Birth Certificate
or a Death Certificate?
Forms to request these documents are available on the Town

When is our refuse and recycling picked up?

Where do I get a recycle bin and what can be recycled?
A recycle bin may be picked up at the Town Hall at no charge. Glass,
Plastic, Metal and Paper/Cardboard are all recycled. Details can
be picked up when you get your bin.
When does my dog have to be licensed?
All dogs 4 months of age or older are to be licensed. We need to
see current rabies information and documentation of spaying or neutering.

Are there leash laws in the Town of Porter?
Under Local Law 2, dated 1980, as amended, it is unlawful to allow
any dog to run at large unless it is restrained by an adequate collar
and leash.
Where can I get Voter Registration forms?
Voter registration forms are available at the Town Clerk's office.
When do I need a Building Permit?
No person, firm, corporation, association or other organization
shall commence the erection, construction, enlargement, alteration,
improvement, removal or demolition of any building or structure
or install heating equipment without having applied for and obtained
a permit from the Building Inspector.
How do I apply for a Building Permit?
Applications for a building permit may be obtained from the Building
Inspector.
How long is a Building Permit good for?
A building permit is good for one year. A permit, upon written request,
may be renewed at the discretion of the Building
Inspector.
How do I apply for a Special Permit or Variance?
There are many types and reasons for a special permit or variance.
Questions can be answered by either the Town
Clerk's Office or the Building
Inspector. Appropriate applications can be obtained from the
Town Clerk.
When is the Planning board meeting?
They meet the first Thursday of each month. See Calendar.
When is the Zoning board of appeals meeting?
They meet the fourth Thursday of each month. See Calendar.
